13 Reasons Why Part 3

Tape 4 side B: Hannah tells us she loves poetry, how she would write poems everyday to help her. One day this guy Ryan was showing her his poems and she showed him one too. He took her poem and added it to the schools gazette paper. He didn't tell her he was taking it, or adding it he just did. She felt really betrayed when this happened.

Tape 5 side A. This is finally the tape about Clay. The first thing you hear is her saying oh Romeo." She says that she has never once heard anything bad or negative about Clay. She also says how Clay is in these tapes, is a lot different than how most of the others are in the tapes. They didn't talk too often, until at a party. She wanted something good to happen from going to the party, so she spoke to him. They say on the couch and had a long conversation, but it wasn't too serious. After wanting to find a quiet place to talk, the found a room upstairs and went to talk. They ended up laying down and they ended up kissing. After they kissed a few times Hannah freaked out because last time she kissed someone a rumor went around that a lot more happened. She yelled at him to leave and once he was out the room she started to cry.

After Clay walked out a drunk couple walked in and didn't notice Hannah because she had say down on the ground next to the bed. The girl was way more drunk than the guy, he barely even drank. He had a guy wait outside the door so he could try to do something with the girl. She ended up being too drunk so he went to leave. The guy guarding the door asked to go in with the girl for five minutes before he had to leave. He ended up doing stuff to her without her knowing because she was passed out drunk. Hannah was too scared to say anything, but so was the first guy in the room.

After the party the next day, Hannah went to Tonys house and dropped off her bike saying how she didn't need it anymore. He says he should have known she was suicidal, giving away her stuff, changing her hair. Several days later he got a package, the one with all the tapes. He knew something was wrong and called her parents to tell her something was wrong. He decided to pass on the tapes because he knew that was what Hannah wanted.

The next tape talks about how she went to a party and left some guy mess around with her.

The very last tape is for her school counselor. She went to his house asking for help, telling him she was thinking of killing herself and all that has happened to her, and he told her that she either needed to confront the situation or pretend it didn't happen and move on from it. She decided to leave and he didn't really attempt to stop her, and she thought that that was enough proof that no one really cares about her and says she's sorry.

Clay flips the tape, and its static for a while, and finally he hears her say "Thank you."

I don't know what I would do if I went through all of this or knew someone who did. I think I would be really scared and would have feelings of guilt for a long time, especially if I felt like I could have done something to change her mind.

13 Reasons Why; Part 2

The book continues with Clay listening to the cassette tapes. It starts off on tape two, side B and is labeled Peeping Tom.Hannah tells us she felt that someone was watching her while she was home alone. She invited a girl over to see if she could see the peeping tom. They set up a plan to be really loud and obnoxious and see if they can surprise him. They pulled open the window shades to see her neighbor who goes to her school, Tyler. Hannah claims to be recording herself under Tyler window at this point to get the satisfaction of what he felt looking into her window. She can see all the schools yearbook comity cameras and step up stuff in his room, and then had to stop talking because he was finally home. She describes his every movement she can see.

The next tape is tape 3 side A. This tape tells us who Hannah invited over and the role she plays in her life. The girls name is Courtney Crimson. She thought that her and Courtney were good friends, but then learned that Courtney was just using Hannah to have her like her. Courtney was nice to everyone in the school so no one would say anything bad about her. They stopped talking until Courtney invited Hannah to a party, and then asked for a ride. As soon as they got there Courtney left Hannah and told her she would be back and to not leave without her.

Clay is walking around and comes to Tyler's house and a neighbor who also goes to his school walks outside and says he knows he has the tapes, because he had them too and then gave Clay a rock to throw at Tyler's window. Hannah keeps talking about the party. She says how Tyler, her peeping tom, was there and then when she was about to leave, he asked for a ride. He didn't know at the time that she knew, but she gave him a ride home; she was completely silent.

The next side of the tape is side B. Hannah is telling us about ti being valentines day, and who at her school you could pay the cheerleaders five dollars and fill out some info about yourself and get five people you could be similar to, to date. They number one guy on her list, she calls and they set up a date. She gets there and goes to to wait; and ends up waiting half an hour. He finally showed up. He sat next to her in a small booth and kept touching her leg and wouldn't stop. She ended up pushing him out of the booth and he called her a tease so it wouldn't make himself look bad.

"I guess that's the point of it all. No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same. "

Tape 4 side A: She starts off by saying this is taking place in a class everyone has to take, peer communication. As things got worse in school, she preferred being in that class, it made her feel safe. They talked about all types of things and had little baskets with everyones name on one. You could drop a comment in someones and leave it anonymous or leave your name. Hannah started getting more sad so receiving these comments made her feel a little better about herself.

Then his guy, Zach, started to take the notes out her basket. She knew it was him because she tricked him int thinking she was feeling for a note, when she really left herself one, and watched from outside the classroom to see him quickly grab and check hers. He walked out and she was yelling at him asking why but he didn't answer and kept walking.
In class the subject of suicide came up and she left an anonymous note to the teacher to talk about in class saying she was thinking of suicide. One student said a remark about how the person must be wanting attention because if they wanted to comment suicide, they would have done it, not told everyone and his remark really hurt her.

I liked this quote because I think she's trying to teach those listening that maybe you don't realize it, but what you say can effect others and that maybe people will be more careful.

I think that if I found someone looking in my window I would be way more freaked out and I would have reacted a lot different. I don't think I would have been able to give him a ride home or even act like nothing was wrong.

Ssr Book : Thirteen Reasons Why; Part 1

I originally picked this book, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, because one of my friends recommended it to me. When I started to read the book, I didn't want to put it down. It's such a good book and there is so many questions that you want the answers to, which they could be at the beginning or the very end of the book. It was suspenseful and addictive.

The book starts off with one of the main character, Clay Jensen, dropping off a package at the post office for someone named Jenny, but he didn't but the return address and also seemed very out of it. The other main character in the book is a girl names Hannah Baker who ended up killing herself a few weeks before Clay sent out his package. A few days before Hannah passed away someone had put a map inside his school locker with different places pointed out on it but he thought nothing of it an crammed it inside his bag. Inside the package is seven cassette tapes with 13 stories.

Clay isn't the first to receive the tapes because someone had to send them to him. Clay and Hannah went to school together and worked in a movie theater together, but didn't talk too much because he got really shy around her (she was popular and outgoing and he kept to himself). He wasn't sure where he fit into this whole situation. When the tapes are playing, each side will start off with Hannah giving out hints of who the person is, what they did to be in her tape, and then she finally will tell you who it is. The first tape, side A, is Hannah announcing it is indeed her talking on the tapes, and that the tapes all tell the story of her life and why she ended her life. She tells them  that if you've been sent the tapes, that you play a role in her life, a role in her ending her life, good or bad. The two rules she announces are that 1. you have to listen and 2. you have to pass the tapes onto the next person when you're done listening.

The first tape is for Justin Foley. She lets the listener know which location on the map relates to this story. Clay was listening as he arrived at her old house. Hannah moved into the state and he was Hannah's first kiss at a park one night, but he started rumors that they did more than kiss. His role in the tapes are that he played a big role in what people thought of her, giving her a bad reputation, because as a new girl people are going to believe the rumors over whats true. The second person is a guy named Alex Standall. Hannah had a friend named Jessica, which they were no longer friends, and Alex made a list, of who had the best and who had the worst, and he but her as best butt, and Jessica as worst because he was mad at Jessica too and knew that putting her ex-best friend would hurt more than a random person. Hannah knew that after that list there was no chance of rekindling the friendship they once had.

The second tape, side A, had a third person on it, but it again involved Alex and Jessica, because they were all new to school that year they got close to each other. Jessica and Hannah both thought Alex was cute, and Jessica accused Hannah of stealing Alex from her because she was voted best and she wasn't, Hannah tried to tell her she wanted nothing to do with Alex but Jessica didn't want to believe her, which lead to her scratching and slapping Hannah's face.

”Because it may seem like a small role now, but it matters. In the end, everything matters.”(Page 13)

I liked this quote because it's true, no matter how small, it could change someone's day, for better or worse. It just shows that people should be more careful with the hurtful things people say.

I think that if I were to be in the book and have the tapes sent to me, I would be really freaked out and I would probably have to talk to a friend about it, even if they weren't one of the people in the tapes. What would you do? I think it's kind of weird that she decided to send the tapes out and have this all planned out, almost like she wanted to freak out everyone who listened to the tapes. I feel like its really sad that she was felt so uncomfortable that she had to do all of this to get people to believe and hear her side of the stories, the rumors. I think after reading how no one believed her over the rumors it's going to make me not judge someone by a rumor that could be completely fake. What would you do if you received the tapes? Would you pass them on to the next person and forget about it a few weeks later, or do you think it would bother you for a long time with questions that will never get answers?
